Summer Wedding at Heartwood Hall

A laid-back Southern wedding, complete with a barn reception. A timeless mix of classics & candids, with a dance floor that didn’t disappoint.

This one’s an extra special one. My first one at a Memphis wedding venue, and I had a complete blast photographing all the corners of Heartwood Hall – from the mansion to the garden to that classic, cozy barn.

But more importantly: N was the best man at our wedding. The kleenex I used during our own ceremony came from N, equal parts witty & reliable. The kind of guy who might make a light joke when someone gets a little weepy, but he’s also the guy who packed the kleenex knowing you might need it in the first place, so who’s really the sappy one.

And then you add J to the mix: bubbly, funny, smart, & endearing as hell. The kind of person that reminds you how beautiful it is getting to meet your friends’ loves – the ways they soften and strengthen each other. Happy to kick off the blog with these joyful moments – enjoy.

J started the morning with her crew at Halo Salon, and the energy was just right: cheerful, relaxed, playful.

What a beautiful lil scene to greet us when we pulled up to Heartwood Hall. Blue skies, warm sun, a little anticipation…

A quick stroll around back, and I got to hang with N with his crew. This one is one of my very favorite photos – no posing, no directing, just waiting for the right moment with wonderful people I’ve known for years and years.

Finally, the wedding! Romantic florals, excited guests, sweet ceremony emotions – and then we’re off!

And before you know it, we’re entering the iconic Heartwood Hall reception barn to take in the real good stuff: twinkle lights, being surrounded by loved ones, and letting loose on the dance floor.

The secret to lively reception photos is to get out there and spend time with your people. Embrace the keds, twirl the dress, hype up your friends, and kiss your love.
